You probably don’t know what you’re drinking. You probably don’t know what real espresso coffee is. Italian espresso is far different in preparation and taste than drip coffee. The fineness of the coffee grains, the amount the coffee beans were cooked, and the temperature and amount of the water used are the differences. Espresso is brewed much faster than drip coffee. About 1.5 ounces of water at a temperature around two hundred degrees Fahrenheit is forced quickly through the fine dark roast espresso grinds that are tightly packed to create a shot of coffee. This process creates a very strong small shot of coffee with about 64 milligrams of caffeine. There is a small but strong amount of coffee in espresso drinks and the rest other portion of it usually consist of milk and flavorings. Espresso is usually considered gourmet and a flavorful art with flavored syrups and milk rather than drip coffee being plain, bitter, and watery that is given other tastes with various creamers. The brewing process for drip is much different. Boiling temperature water is dripped over large coffee grains and filtered to produce a very watery but caffeinated cup of coffee. A cup of drip coffee made by a professional barista would generally have around 170 mgs of caffeine. Proportionally, espresso has far more caffeine than drip coffee, but drip coffee is usually served in 8 oz. whereas espresso is served in one or two fluid ounces. While around 170 mgs of caffeine is consumed in the 8 oz. of drip coffee, only around 130 mgs of caffeine would be consumed in two shots of espresso. Espresso is stronger, but drip coffee still usually provides more caffeine. Now you can avoid saying something stupid to a barista and making a fool of yourself. Now you can know what you want.
Obama Interent Regulation
A few different sources all try to say President Obama is trying to regulate the Internet, to control the decisions of Internet providers like AT&T. An article from Fox News even tries to promote the Republican Party while addressing the matter although politics are not even slightly related. The reality even shown clearly through each of the articles is that Obama is trying to free the Internet. The issue is that Internet providers are limiting the Internet for some customers because of the service plan they have, but Obama believes in “net-neutrality” and so does Netflix who said "consumers should pick winners and losers on the Internet, not broadband gatekeepers." Because of service providers limiting their broadband, it makes it much harder for some people to watch Netflix. More specifically, Obama states the Federal Communications Commission should ban “paid prioritization.” Former Bigfork High School student Kyle Branch also believes “Internet providers are ripping [people off].” It would be nice to see a bill passed that handles broadband service provision differently.
Pewdiepie
In this day and age one of the most popular internet communities is YouTube, which has videos from anyone about anything, and it has mostly evolved into a form of antisocial media. Gaming Channels such as Pewdiepie suck in many YouTubers to watch him play video games and view his reactions to what he's doing. To collect subscribers the YouTuber Pewdiepie speaks in an odd silly voice and screams like a child when he gets scared in the game he's playing. The entertainment values of his videos are silly and situational comedy. At the end of his videos he makes a connection with his viewers by requesting that they bro fist him, which is a form of fist bumping he came up with. Despite this gesture there is no reason to believe he cares about his viewers at all, he is subjecting his subscribers to mindless entertainment. “I don't believe Pewdiepie deserves the subscribers he has, and I think that most of the people who subscribe to him watch him because of the bandwagon popularity, and he's not that funny, many other Youtubers deserve better than to be overshadowed by Pewdiepie.” Says student Melody McHaley, who has the opinion that Pewdiepie is a waste of time. Senior Kera Leslie stated “I don't like [Pewdiepie] anymore. His humor is childish”, when asked if she believed Pewdiepie’s channel was mindless entertainment, she agreed. Most people who were asked had the same to say, and many of them said they used to like Pewdiepie, but do not anymore. “Pewdiepie was original and had a lot of character, that's why I like him, but I don't like his bandwagon videos anymore.” Says former Pewdiepie fan, Junior Brett Bradstreet. From the view of most who have watched Pewdiepie, he is a waste of time.
Hatched Literature
The Hatch Magazine is an art and literature magazine assembled by the literary magazine class. It contains the collected works from various students especially those from the class producing it.
“We just want everyone to submit art to have it published, it is a rare opportunity. Submit your stuff” says high school senior and Hatch editor Kera Leslie. Everyone is encouraged to create and submit to the magazine, Editor Rosalie Lander Said “There are kids who hate writing stuff and then they come up with good stuff for the magazine, it's a good experience”.
There is much creative freedom, and according to senior Isaac Passwater, editor and setter of the magazine, “For the most part people can say whatever they want.” This gives students room to express their ideas the way they want.
The magazine is assembled entirely in indesign by Passwater. The work is turned in to Jessop, reviewed by the editors, and put into the single Mac desktop that is used to fabricate the polished magazine. It takes a long time and the team is eager to fill the magazine with as much creative content as possible.
When finished, the magazine is more so a high quality art book with sturdy glossy pages full of photographs, visual art, and literature. It is an impressive achievement for a high school class. The school is fortunate to have an opportunity for students to see their creations published. It looks impressive to colleges, employers, and yourself. The final deadline for entries is the first week of April, so submit.
